Volunteer State Bank Expands Accounting and Risk Leadership Teams, Strengthening Financial Strategy for Future Growth

NASHVILLE & PORTLAND, TN. –  Volunteer State Bank, a leading financial institution headquartered in Middle Tennessee, announces a strategic expansion of its accounting and risk management leadership teams, with the promotion of senior accounting leader and addition of two. The move reaffirms the bank’s commitment to maintain its high standards in financial and risk management, while strengthening its long-term financial strategy and infrastructure for future growth.  

Volunteer State Bank announces the promotion of Nancy Mullen to senior vice president, director of audit and risk management from her previous role as senior vice president, controller. Mullen holds 24 years of extensive expertise in accounting, audits, asset liability, and risk management. Joining the bank in 2021, Mullen has consistently demonstrated her commitment to excellence and leadership. In her new capacity, she will oversee audit and risk management activities, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing the bank’s risks. Prior to her tenure at Volunteer State Bank, Mullen was a licensed financial advisor with RBC Wealth Management’s Institutional Consulting Group and served as senior manager assurance services at KraftCPAs PLLC. Mullen holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Montana and is a certified public accountant. Throughout her distinguished career, Mullen has been recognized for her professional achievements, including being honored by the Nashville Business Journal as a Woman of Influence in 2019 and 40 Under 40 in 2015. Her dedication extends beyond her professional endeavors; she serves as second vice chair on the national Surviving Spouse Advisory Council for the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and is an advisory board member and executive committee member for the Legion Fund. Mullen continues to be an avid supporter for our veterans and military surviving families through various organizations and activities at the local, state and national levels. 

McClure joins Volunteer State Bank as senior vice president, director of financial planning and analysis. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Kennesaw State University and has over 17 years of finance experience, with an emphasis on reporting, budgeting, forecasting and asset/liability management. In his new role, McClure will help lead the budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, implementation, and business strategic analysis for the bank. During his career, McClure has excelled at modeling and analyzing complex financial data and preparing financial forecasts for medium to large banks. Prior to joining Volunteer State Bank, he most recently served as vice president, financial planning and analysis manager for FirstBank, and formerly, served as senior vice president, director of financial planning and analysis for Atlantic Capital Bank.  

Jefferson joins Volunteer State Bank as senior vice president, controller and brings over 13 years of extensive experience in financial management and regulatory compliance and a diverse knowledge of accounting and audits. Jefferson earned a Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Illinois University and is a certified public accountant. In her role, Jefferson will oversee the bank’s accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reports, internal controls and compliance with federal and state regulations. Prior to joining Volunteer State Bank, Jefferson most recently served as controller, for CapStar Bank and previously held the position of senior vice president, chief of accounting and controller at Reliant Bank. In addition to her professional achievements, Jefferson serves on the board of directors, and as treasurer, for the Nashville Opera Company.
